This year’s Palladio course is intended as a return to the origins of the Centre’s ‘historic’ initiative which has continued since 1958. The course is primarily centred on systematic visits to almost all the Palladio buildings, including those seldom visited, such as the ones in Friuli. Only the lectures will be solely in Italian, while young assistants will provide English translations of the information offered during the visits for those participants who do not understand Italian.
Planned visits: Arco Bollani in Udine, Palazzo Antonini in Udine, Villa Zeno in Cessalto, Villa Foscari ‘La Malcontenta’ in Mira, the church of the Redentore in Venice, the San Giorgio complex in Venice, the facade of San Francesco della Vigna in Venice, the convent of the Carità in Venice. In Vicenza: Palazzo Civena, the Basilica Palladiana, the Loggia del Capitaniato, Palazzo Thiene, Palazzo Schio, Palazzo Porto, the church of Santa Maria Nuova, Palazzo Thiene Bonin Longare, Palazzo Porto in piazza Castello, Palazzo Valmarana, Cappella Valmarana, the Cogollo house and the Teatro Olimpico. Villa Arnaldi in Meledo, Villa Trissino in Meledo, Villa Pisani in Bagnolo, Palazzo della Torre in Verona, Villa Sarego in Santa Sofia di Pedemonte, Villa Godi in Lonedo, the bridge in Bassano, Villa Barbaro in Maser, Villa Emo in Fanzolo, Villa Cornaro in Piombino Dese, Villa Valmarana in Lisiera, Villa Caldogno in Caldogno, Villa Porto in Molina, Villa Forni Cerato in Montecchio Precalcino, Villa Valmarana in Vigardolo, Villa ‘La Rotonda’, Villa Gazzotti in Bertesina, Villa Thiene in Quinto, Villa Chiericati in Vancimuglio, Villa Poiana in Poiana Maggiore, Villa Pisani in Montagnana and Villa Badoer in Fratta Polesine.
Deadline for admission requests
The admission request form must reach the Centro within, and no later than, July 22th, 2005, 12:00 am.
How to request admission
A limited number of applicants will be admitted to the course, which is open to all. The official language is Italian. To request admission, applicants must complete all parts of the admission request form and return it to the Centro by the date indicated below. This form is available on the Centro’s web site, www.cisapalladio.org, or in the secretary’s office. To facilitate correspondence, applicants are requested to provide a fax number or an e-mail address. Applicants will be chosen by a Committee appointed by the President of the Centro’s Academic Council, whose choices will be deemed definitive, on the basis of the information provided on the admission request form.
Directions for participation
The enrolment fee due for the 47th course on the architecture of Palladio is € 400.00 + IVA 20% (four hundred/00 euros + IVA 20%).
The enrolment fee includes the cost of group transportation during the course and tickets for admission to the monuments visited. Each participant must, on the other hand, pay his or her own travel expenses, as well as room and board. All chosen candidates must confirm (by fax only) their decision to participate in the course within 7 days of their official acceptance. At the same time they must pay the relative fee (with the exception of scholars granted financial aid: see below). Any candidate who does not confirm and pay the fee within the prescribed term will automatically be excluded from the course. Eventual cancellations must be received by the Centro at least 10 days before the start of the course: beyond that term, the Centro reserves the right to retain the enrolment fee.
How to apply for financial aid
Some financial aid is available, on the basis of merit, to participants who have obtained their university degree in architecture, history of art, engineering or the study of cultural monuments and property after 1994. This aid takes the form of exemption from payment of the enrolment fee, which will be paid to the Centro on behalf of the chosen applicants by organisations, institutions or private parties. Interested applicants should present a request for financial aid, along with the admission request form for the course, to the President of the Centro. A candidate who is granted financial aid must pay a deposit of € 50.00 using a postal or international money order; this sum will be reimbursed at the conclusion of the course. Candidates receiving financial aid must attend all sessions with regularity, in any case no fewer than 80% of the total course hours. If this minimum attendance requirement is not met, the Centro reserves the right to withhold reimbursement of the deposit and to withhold the certificate attesting to completion of the course.
